Gordon, Jason and I set off for Victoria on Thursday, July 6 and arrived at Gordon Head LBC at approximately 3 pm for a practice followed by a pizza party for the 12 boys and 4 girls
who had registered for the Provincials.
The boys were split into two round robins and five games were played over two days: two Friday and three on Saturday. The format was 2-hour time limit or first to reach 18 points except for the medal games which had no time limit. Jason won his first game 18-5, his second game 18-9, his third game 18-10 and his fourth game 18-13, and just lost his fifth game 14-18. However, he had earned enough points to place him in the semifinals on Sunday. His first game in the semifinals he lost to the eventual gold medal winner 15-18 which meant he was in the playoff for the bronze medal. I am pleased to say he won his game convincingly 18-11 over last year’s gold medalist. (This means he bowled approximately 560 bowls over the weekend – no mean feat.) As you can imagine Gordon and I were very proud of him as he went up to receive his medal.
Please join me in congratulating Jason on his success at the Provincials and wishing him success in the upcoming Nationals in Nova Scotia at the end of July in Nova Scotia. We have collected enough to pay for his airfare and most of the hotel accommodation. The Valchar family and I would like to thank everyone for their donations and purchases toward funding his trip to Dartmouth, Halifax.
You have been amazing in your support.
