2017 Provincial Lawn Bowling Championships For VIP Bowlers
August 9 & 10

On Wednesday and Thursday afternoons Nanaimo Lawn Bowling Club hosted the provincial championships for blind and visually impaired bowlers. Each competitor played 2 games each afternoon. Dave Ruckman of Nanaimo with director Jean Jacobsen won all 4 of his games to claim the Gold medal.Jay Gatley also of Nanaimo assisted by Roelie Roos had a record of 3 wins , 1 loss to place second.In 3rd place also with a record of 3 wins, 1 loss was Gus Thorne and helper Donn Sherry. Honorable mention goes to Marion Kalicun with sighted helper Emily Lawson who won 2 games while playing in her first provincials during her first year of play. Out of town competitors came from Coquitlam, Kelowna and Ladner. The next event on their competitive calendar is the National Championships to be held in St. Catherines, Ontario during the last week of August. The participants were well fed thanks to the efforts of Margaret Coleman, Roelie Roos and Madeleine Sherry.  When the meals were being served several other club members helped with the distribution.
